Background of the Study
YouTube tutorials have revolutionized skill acquisition by offering accessible, step-by-step guidance on a wide range of subjects. In Ife Central, Osun State, students and professionals increasingly turn to YouTube as a supplementary educational resource to develop practical skills—from technical abilities to creative pursuits (Akin, 2023). The platform’s visual and interactive nature facilitates a deeper understanding of complex concepts, allowing learners to practice and master new skills at their own pace (Ogun, 2024). Despite its widespread popularity, concerns regarding the accuracy and quality of content persist, which may affect the learning outcomes of users (Ejiro, 2025). This study appraises the influence of YouTube tutorials on skill acquisition among learners in Ife Central. By analyzing viewer engagement, content quality, and learning outcomes, the research aims to provide insights into the effectiveness of digital video tutorials in skill development and propose measures to enhance their educational impact.

Statement of the Problem
Although YouTube tutorials offer a convenient means for acquiring new skills, their effectiveness in Ife Central is compromised by issues of content quality and credibility. Learners often encounter inconsistent and sometimes inaccurate information, which can hinder skill development and result in suboptimal learning outcomes (Ogunleye, 2023). The absence of standardized quality control raises concerns about the reliability of these tutorials. This study seeks to examine these issues and determine how the quality of YouTube content influences skill acquisition, thereby identifying strategies to improve digital learning experiences (Chisom, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To evaluate the impact of YouTube tutorials on skill acquisition.

  2. To identify factors affecting the quality of YouTube educational content.

  3. To recommend strategies for enhancing the educational effectiveness of YouTube tutorials.

Research Questions:

  1. How do YouTube tutorials affect skill acquisition among learners?

  2. What factors determine the quality of educational content on YouTube?

  3. What improvements can be made to maximize learning outcomes from YouTube tutorials?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. YouTube tutorials have a positive impact on skill acquisition.

  2. High-quality content correlates with better learning outcomes.

  3. Standardized content guidelines improve the effectiveness of YouTube tutorials.

Significance of the Study
This study provides essential insights into the role of YouTube tutorials in facilitating skill acquisition, offering recommendations for enhancing digital education. Its findings will benefit educators, content creators, and learners by identifying best practices for producing high-quality educational content and maximizing the benefits of online video tutorials (Ibrahim, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to learners in Ife Central Local Government and focuses exclusively on the influence of YouTube tutorials on skill acquisition.
